THIS WEEK IN HIP-HOP AUG 2ND 2021
Dave East & Harry Fraud come together to collab on what seems to be East’s second official album release “HOFFA” . The theme of the title is based on American labor leader and mob affiliate, Jimmy Hoffa. Jimmy mysteriously disappeared on July 30th of 1975, So the fact that this album dropped 46 years later on the same exact date is just a small yet genius detail Dave East and Harry Fraud added to this project.“ The Disappearance“ is the intro song to this “HOFFA” project and it starts with an audio news clip from the actual disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa back in 75’. Then Harry Fraud’s production comes in and sets a tone that feels exactly like the background music to someone planning a disappearance. Another small yet genius detail about this album. That same genius pretty much resides throughout all 14 songs on the project! Great production with great lyrics/story-telling to go on top. Some features on this album include G herbo,Benny The Butcher,Jim Jones,Curren$y,French Montana, Dave East’s late friend Kiing Shooter & more. “HOFFA” is now available on all streaming platforms go check it out!
INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK: DRINK CHAMPS x BEANIE SIGEL
The Drink Champs podcast does it again with yet another legendary conversation with yet another artist we all love and have been wanting to hear from. This week it’s Beanie Sigel occupying the guest chair. Beanie Sigel is someone who for sure deserves his flowers. From earning his spot on the biggest record label at the time by freestyling (Roc-A-Fella), to starring in movies, Beans has contributed a lot of dope moments to hip-hop culture! This conversation was extremely transparent and easy to listen to as NORE,DJ EFN and Beanie Sigel take a trip down memory lane to talk about how it all began and where it’s heading. Some standout moments were the story DJ EFN told about how someone in Miami was impersonating Beanie Sigel and taking shows/walk through’s on his behalf before Beans blew up officially, which is a credit to just how impactful Beans’ rhymes were at the time because people across the country knew Beanie Sigel’s lyrics more than they knew what he looked like, due to his legendary verses on the DJ Clue mixtapes. Another standout moment was Beanie Sigel expressing gratitude to his Roc-A-Fella brothers for allowing him to experience what it’s like to be part of a dynasty. The full interview is now available on Youtube!
ARTIST TO LOOKOUT FOR: ELCAMINO
Coming out of Buffalo NY, this week’s artist to lookout for is Griselda/BSF affiliate, Elcamino. Elcamino has been putting out high level art in music form for years now with projects such as “ Don’t Eat The Fruit” , “Walking On Water”, & "Block Work” just to name a few. His work ethic is second to none so if you’re a fan of his or plan on becoming one, just know you will never be starved for music and any new music will always be a bar higher than the last go-round. Elcamino paints some of the most vivid mental pictures of what his upbringing was like as well as what he’s still going through One thing that stands out about Elcamino is the way he incorporates art into his raw,street-savy lyrics. Whether it be through his album/song covers or through his fashion brand that he owns titled “ Anti-Gun Violence “. The Griselda label as a whole does a great job with aesthetic, Elcamino just adds his own flavor to his portion of the movement. Elcamino just dropped the pre-orders for his new project titled “Let There Be Light” which will be released via CD . A pre-order to this album comes with a free item from his clothing line and a autographed CD. This is someone who is about a year or less away from being just as big a name as his brothers. He’s THAT good. So get in tune! Checkout the video to his new single “ Thank You Lord” from his new album “ Let There Be Light” which once again, is available now for pre-order on GOATALBUM.COM.
