Offset 3/17 @ HISTORY - Toronto
With this highly-anticipated debut solo headline tour, fans were eager to see Offset “Set It Off” at HISTORY in Toronto on March 17th, 2024. With three openers, including fellow YRN rapper, Mango Foo, the energy in this room was unmatched. While the show had a late start, fans did not seem to mind, many attendees chanting for the New York rapper. After crew members pulled off the large tarp on stage, the stage design was revealed an all-white staircase. Building this anticipation, Offset graced the stage, appearing at the top of the staircase to kick off Act 1 of his setlist with “Say My Grace”.
The quality of Offset’s performance was nothing short of impressive. It was clear that a lot of thought went into the creative direction of this tour, from the live band to the decision to include four backup dancers. With the rapper learning intricate choreography, Offset’s dance background added an incredible component to the show. This paired with crowd interaction and rotating his set to perform with and without the band, with and without a mic stand to match the vibe of each track played, Offset established himself as a true performer, displaying his “star” factor from the first beat to the last track. It’s quite rare for artists in the rap scene to be able to perform to this calibre while also hiring a creative team that pays attention to lighting and set design. To no surprise, this performance successfully left fans rapping along all night.
Playing his popular hits including his tracks with Migos to performing a showcase of his 2023 release “SET IT OFF”, it was a great decision to include multiple acts to break up the night. While there simply would not be enough time to get through all of Offset’s discography in a 90-minute set, this allowed for the inclusion of an impressive 27 songs during his set through choruses and playing the most recognizable parts of his older hits and features including, “Narcos” and “Taste”.
From a media perspective, it was a busy photo pit, with three types of accreditation for outlets and creatives working directly with the artist teams. While slightly chaotic, this was nice to see, as limiting media for access to capture sets in the rap scene has become increasingly more common. It’s clear that Offset’s team wanted as much press as possible, and rightfully so, with this tour knocking our expectations out of the water for this debut solo tour. HISTORY was packed by the time Offset took the stage and the use of lasers and smoke left those standing at the back of the venue with a great view of the show.
The “Set It Off” tour was impressive across the board and we can’t wait to see how Offset will improve on this already high-quality show with future releases.
