Teezo Touchdown 5/7 @ Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto
Only 4 shows into the North American leg of the “Spend The Night” Tour, Teezo Touchdown made a huge mark in Toronto at his sold-out show held at The Phoenix Concert Theatre on May 7th, 2024. Born Aaron Lashane Thomas, Teezo Touchdown has made huge waves in the music industry over the past few years with an impressive list of features on various a-listers’ tracks including, Tyler, The Creator’s “RUNITUP”, Travis Scott’s “Modern Jam” and “Amen” by Drake. Not to mention recently performing on the main stage as a special guest at Coachella this year with Doja Cat to perform his verse on “MASC” with the headliner. This 31-year-old artist hailing from Beaumont, Texas has had an impressive run so far, despite only releasing his debut album, “How Do You Sleep at Night?” in September of 2023.
Signed to RCA Records and managed by industry powerhouse Amal Noor, who has experience working as the senior director of A&R at the Atlanta-based record label, LVRN, Teezo Touchdown has a respectable team behind him. Consistently finding ways to display his creativity, this night was like no other, the artist and his creative team opting to include a talk-show-style pre-show called “Touchdown Live”, hosted by Annabelle Kline and J. Ford, rather than a traditional opener. While this may be due to keeping tour budgets low, including exclusive interview content with the artist, these two kept fans engaged with trivia and showcasing a selection of music videos by Lil Yachty, PartyNextDoor and SadBoi. Following this segment, Annabelle Kline returned to the stage with a well-curated DJ set, which significantly helped to keep the crowd’s morale despite the long wait for Teezo Touchdown’s appearance.
From three costume changes to his dynamic background visuals, Teezo Touchdown and his stage presence were nothing short of impressive, with his high-energy set controlling the atmosphere of the crowd. From his more artistic and mellow style to his intense rap verses and the inclusion of a few of his many features in his setlist, Teezo fans were given a well-rounded show that led to both group chants and large moshpits that could be felt through the balcony overlooking the stage. It was simply impressive to see fans connect with Teezo Touchdown’s uniqueness and artistic individuality throughout the night, especially considering the artist’s ability to command the audience while still technically being relatively new to the music industry. From “Careful” and “SUCKA” kicking off the show to “Third Coast”, “Rock Paper Strippers” and “5 O’Clock” closing out the set, Teezo Touchdown is an artist destined for stardom and we can’t wait to see what he does next.
