Steve Stoute: The Breakfast Club Interview
Steve Stoute Talks with The Breakfast Club.
Steve Stoute talks signing Kobe Bryant to his first record deal with Columbia/Track Masters. In 1998, Kobe was part of a group from Philly with guys he went to High school with, he stayed in New York and spent a lot of time with Nas and Foxy Brown to acclimate himself to do what he wanted as an artist. Steve Stoute said he has only seen 3 or 4 people in the world with the work ethic that Kobe had, he was one of the only people he met with an incredible work ethic working towards whatever he did. Kobe lived with him for a month in New York while they were making an album, becoming really close friends. Steve Stoute also talks Kobe’s new chapter in his life, being close to Jay-Z, and his love for the counter culture of Hip Hop.
Steve Stoute talks differences with Dame Dash, his deal with United Masters and the NBA. The deal allows artists who are signed though his platform to what he calls “The biggest playlist for unsigned artists” to help give them a platform to truly help their career. Artists on this playlist are featured in NBA videos, and more. Steve Stoute also talks about the importance of Advertising and advises to grow your audience before signing away your rights.
