One day after announcing his sixth and final studio album, Circles, would be releasing on January 17th, 2020, Mac Miller’s family has released the first posthumous song, “Good News.”
“At the time of his passing, Malcom was well into the process of recording his companion album to Swimming, entitled, Circles,” Mac Miller’s family shared on an Instagram post yesterday announcing the new album. “Two different styles completing each other, completing a circle—Swimming in Circles was the concept. He had been working with Jon Biron, who after hearing some early versions of songs, cleared his calendar to help Malcom fine-tune them. After his passing, Jon dedicated himself to finishing Circles based on the time and conversations with Malcom.”
Directed by Eric Tilford and Anthony Gaddis, the six-minute video begins with footage taken during a in-studio session. Mac Miller looks into the camera and invites the viewers to follow him into a dark room — “Come on guys, let’s show you how we do this.” The visual transitions into an abstract world that mixes themes and images from his career, a calm journey of his life.
