T-Pain Says He Fell Into Four-Year Depression After Usher Criticized His Use of Auto-Tune

In a clip from Netflix’s upcoming series, This Is Pop, T-Pain reveals the dark side of his musical success of popularizing the use of auto-tune to the mainstream. Although the pitch correction has been around fr years, T-Pain claims a confrontation with Usher on a plane years ago lead him t a four-year depression.

"Usher was my friend .. I really respect Usher. And he was like, 'Man. I'm gonna tell you something, man. You kinda fuced up music." T-Pain said he let out a “nervous chuckle” at the comment and he thought Usher was joking at first. After that, T-Pain shares Usher doubled down on his original comment and said he “Really fuc*ed up music for real singers.”

According to T-Pain, Usher’s comment was the beginning of a trying four-year stretch for his mental health.
