Name: Trevor Lanier formerly T.REV i had to change my name bc iTunes /spotify /tidal apple music etc. was uploading my name under different versions of the name T.REV trev t rev T_revpraying that my listeners can still find me

Nickname: Trev

Age:25

Where are you from and where are you currently living?

I was born in Wilmington North Carolina, I moved back to Wilmington NC about 4 years ago after college.

What's your process?

I have to record my songs several times. I think I have something awesome then I record it. Then I listen to it until I hate it and make improvements then I record again. I do this 3-5 times.

Who influenced your style? How do you separate yourself from other artists?

I used to listen to a lot of dizzy wright when he was pushing Christian values and telling stories. Before he started pushing the new age spiritualism and making songs about getting high. I love story telling and he always made music about things going on in his life. I loved that. I also listen to a lot of KYLE I love how he’s isn't afraid to put his real thoughts and emotions into his music and isn't afraid to show where he stands on subjects and how he feels about other artists. Also Arok Hill has been with me since I started making hip-hop and has guided me while finding my own style and sounds id have to say he has been the most influential artist for me.

I don’t worry too much about being compared to other artists ppl always try to compare artists to ones that have come before. I try to just focus on sounding like me and making sure the music is true to myself. There is only one me so I think as long as I do that ill be fine.

Do you prefer a particular art form - emceeing or producing?

Honestly I’m very involved in the managing of myself as well as other artists I really like all the work that goes on behind the scene. But nothing compares to being on stage in front of an audience that is vibing with you.

What are new challenges when you step in the studio?

Some times I worry about "is this as good as my last track?" I’m trying to fight those thoughts off and not allow them to keep me from experimenting and exploring my sound further.

Top three music influencers? dizzy wright/ audio push/ Kyle

Can you describe yourself in five words?  motivated/ leader/ patient/ flawed/ blessed

What encouraged you to start making music? At what point in your life did you decide that music was your passion?

I’ve been playing the drums since I was 5. Iv always been involved with music in some way. I was always in the school band/ drum line. iv been in several rock bands/ metal/ reggae/ punk/ pop punk. When I moved to college I was unable to find any band mates to start up a band with. I started rapping with a homie bc you can do that by yourself. I quickly fell in love with it and soon after discovered my love of singing although not very good I enjoy it a lot. I think I always knew I would do something with music weather I was the artist or a manager.

Dream collab?

Anderson paak /

J. Cole is a close second

How do you feel about the Internet in the music business?

I think it has changed the way ppl get their music out and ppl find their music. I honestly love it bc it has allowed me to get my music out to hundreds of thousands of people and back in the day you couldn't do that on your own. Unfortunately the industry has become inflated with mediocre artists who are very good with social media.

You have the chance to be anybody for a day. Who would you be and what would you do?

I would be me I don't have any business being anyone else. I’m satisfied with just being me.

Something that fans wouldn’t know about you?

I work 45 hours a week at a trucking company doing accounting. I’m very business minded and I like to plan out every step.

If you had to listen to one album & one mixtape for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

Golden Age by Dizzy Wright

and Malibu by Anderson .paak

Outside of music what hobby do you turn to in order to rejuvenate your creativity? What is a typical day/week like for you?

Most of my hobbies are music based but I love to travel. Doesn’t matter where or for what I love to explore new places and foods. I've written at least half of my songs in an airplane. idk what it is about being so high up and away from the world that allows me to think clearly and in new ways.

What should we expect next?

The EP its almost done ill be dropping that next. I should probably give it a name already. I'm horrible at coming up with names for my work I usually just pick the 2 most dominant words in the song aha.
